Fusing the universe, one piece of glass at a time.
Welcome to Fuser Grrrl!
As a child, like any child, I was fascinated with shiny, sparkly objects. Dazzling neon lights, shimmering platform boots, blinding precious metals, and brilliantly glowing gems. I never quite outgrew this, so in 2006, when a friend suggested taking a glass fusing workshop, I thought of it as a challenge to use my natural passion for art to express my inner passion for the brighter side of life. The medium inspired me, and I instantly recognized its potential - I was hooked on glass, and Fuser Girl was born. I managed to acquire a primitive, but reasonable kiln, and began designing original fused glass jewelry, which I sold relentlessly, though sometimes barely, at various art shows around Toronto, my centre of operations.
The more I dove into this art form, the more my curiosity evolved. I couldn't get enough. I became engrossed with the science behind glass; the chemical reactions that produce the wondrous designs, and the visual relationships created by fusing different glass, with different colours and densities. With access to larger kilns, I was able to experiment with larger pieces than I could with my home kiln - plates, dishes, coasters, even wall art. The ability to develop my ideas on a larger scale has opened up a world of possibilities to explore designs inspired by the majestic luminescence of the planets, and the brilliant iridescence of the stars.
My name is Anne, but you can call me Fuser Grrrl.
